Creativity takes courage. -Henri Matisse
My name is Ms. Hope Ward. I am an Armstrong alum, Go Pirates!
I majored in art education and minored in ceramics. This is my fourth year as the art teacher at Marshpoint and we are off to a great start!
I teach a lot of positivity in the classroom. We work daily on positive words and manners. How to critique artwork and the world with a positive outlook is what I hope inspires my students because it has sure inspired me! Loving the world we live in and seeing beauty in each person and all that surrounds us is what I want the students to capture with their eyes as I have with mine.
Making mistakes and learning from them is a big deal in my room. We sketch often and learn that mistakes can make us better artists and even create something more exciting and expressive than what we envisioned at first!
We express our imaginations and think outside the box. I may offer help through a demonstration. However, your child's work is all theirs. It amazes me what they come up with, the stories they put with their work, the imaginations they have!
I teach mostly techniques. How to use our brushes, how to turn your pencil and crayon to make bold line, how to cross hatch to create a darker shadow, how to create a painting made up of dots and lines alone. We incorporate art history as it is relevant to the project.
Art is relevant in everyday life. We use a lot of math and English as well as science and history to create our masterpieces. I try to incorporate how the artwork is relevant to other types of jobs and lifestyles.
Not only am I teaching your children, I am learning with them. They inspire me to know more, laugh more and create more. Keep inspiring and lifting them up. Keep encouraging their creativity and positivity!
Come by the art room to see the inspiring displays, colorful artwork, kiddos in action or just to say, "Aloha!".
Happy school year!
xoxo,
Ms. Ward
