Marshpoint in the Community
Marshpoint has the pleasure every year of displaying their artwork during the holidays within the community. The 5th grade students discussed origami, where it originated and created their own with McDonalds supplies. They created wreaths, hearts, cranes and more to hang on the tree at our neighborhood McDonalds.
Monet and the American Impressionists
4th grade students went on their annual field trip to the Jepson Museum this week. We have been learning about Impressionist artists the past 9 weeks. We have learned landscapes, higher horizon lines, how to layer our paint, and how to create an entire painting from short, choppy brushstrokes. We went on a docent-led tour through history's Impressionist artists. We also did our own hands on studio work with "shrink dink" art. I am beyond impressed with my fourth graders actions, good behavior, maturity, knowledge of the work, inquisitive minds and creativity as we ventured out to our local museum to learn more outside of my room.
Photographs of the exhibition were not allowed during our tour. However, I have uploaded personal photographs taken at the MET in NYC that the students have seen and been inspired by.
International BACCALAUREATE training
My colleagues and I went on an IB training in Charleston recently. We broadened our knowledge of what it is to be an IB school, how to incorporate it into our lessons more and how to be globally cultured. Our presentation is linked below:
